Berkeley Burglary Causes $10K In Damages: Report

The burglar was captured on surveillance video trying to break into the store several times before destroying a padlock, KRON reports.

BERKELEY, CA — A Berkeley deli owner says a recent burglary caused $10,000 in losses and property damage, KRON reports.

The owner of Kathmandu Market and Deli at 2521 Telegraph Ave. said the burglar was captured on surveillance video trying to break into the store several times before destroying a padlock, the report said.

The burglar cleared a display cases and left with tobacco products and electronics.

“Particular person came back and forth four times, four different occasions with different weapons to open the door,” Daryn Singh told the television station.

An alarm at the store went off at 6:45 p.m. on Saturday, but police didn’t arrive until 10:15, according to Singh.

“Pure negligence, just ignored us you know we felt humiliated,” Singh said.

“Had they responded urgently, they could’ve caught him.”
