BERKELEY, CA — The city of Berkeley Monday implemented a new mask mandate amid a delta variant-fueled coronavirus surge.
The new order requires everyone to wear facial coverings indoors regardless of vaccination status.
The order goes into effect Tuesday at 12:01 a.m.

Berkeley Health Officer Dr. Lisa B. Hernandez joined her counterparts from seven Bay Area counties in announcing the new health order that included an urgent call for all eligible residents who have not yet been vaccinated to get their shots.
"We are deeply fortunate to have vaccines that so profoundly reduce the risk of severe illness and death from the newest, more dangerous variant," Hernandez said.
