Berkeley Marina Boat Fire Kills 1: Cops

The cause of the blaze is under investigation, according to police.

BERKELEY, CA — A Berkeley Marina boat fire early Wednesday morning left one person, police said.

Berkeley police and the city’s fire department responded to a 12:38 a.m. report of a boat on fire in the water near Marina Boulevard at the Virginia Street extension road (just east of the Double Tree Hotel).

The male subject had been pulled from the water and CPR was being administered when emergency responders arrived, police said.

The victim was transported to a local trauma center for further medical aid, where he died from his injuries, according to police.

Cal Fire Office of the State Fire Marshal Arson and Bomb Unit and Alameda County Coroner’s Office are involved in the probe, police said.
