Berkeley Pedestrian Critically Injured In Suspected DUI Crash

BERKELEY, CA — A driver suspected of driving under the influence was arrested Thursday afternoon in connection with a collision involving a pedestrian, the Berkeley Police Department said.

The suspect is a 65-year-old Berkeley man who was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence—causing injury, police said.

Officers at around 2:45 p.m. responded to multiple calls reporting a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian in the area of San Pablo Avenue and Oregon Street, police said.

Emergency personnel discovered the pedestrian seriously injured, police said.

Because of the severity of the collision, the Department’s Fatal Accident Investigation Team (FAIT) was summoned to the crash scene, police said.

The collision resulted in the closure of San Pablo Avenue between Grayson Street and Heinz Avenue for several hours.
