Berkeley Seeks Public’s Voice On Development
A new online tool aims to make it easier for residents to express their views to city officials.
BERKELEY, CA — The city of Berkeley is seeking the public’s input on development, and it has unveiled a new online tool that aims to make it easier for residents to express their views.
Residents can provide general input or use online tools to give specific guidance on a draft plan for how and where nearly 9,000 housing units can be built in Berkeley to meet state requirements, city officials said.
This plan, which would start in 2023 and last through 2031, contains goals, policies, and programs to guide the City’s decision-making around the rehabilitation and development of a wide range of housing.

Known as a “Housing Element,” the plan addresses racial and social equity, as well as protections for vulnerable and historically impacted communities.
The plan will include an inventory of sites currently zoned to accommodate Berkeley’s portion of housing required of the region.
