Massive Caldor Blaze Imperils Berkeley-Run Echo Lake Camp: Mayor

The Berkeley Fire Department is on the scene at Berkeley's Echo Lake Camp, Mayor Jesse Arreguín tweeted Monday morning.

The Caldor Fire has raged through rugged terrain since Aug. 14 according to Cal Fire. As of Monday morning, the blaze has torched over 177,000 acres​ and is 14 percent contained, CNN reports.

BERKELEY, CA — The massive Caldor fire is threatening a Berkeley-run camp near Lake Tahoe.

Berkeley’s Echo Lake Camp is located in El Dorado County, about 15 miles from South Lake Tahoe, where evacuation orders were issued Monday morning.

The Berkeley Fire Department is on the scene, Mayor Jesse Arreguín tweeted Monday morning.

"We are currently monitoring the #CaldorFire which is threatening Berkeley's Lake Echo Camp,"Arreguín tweeted.

"@BerkeleyFD is on scene and will do everything possible to protect the site. I will post updates as they become available."

The Caldor Fire has raged through rugged terrain since Aug. 14 according to Cal Fire.

As of Monday morning, the blaze has torched over 177,000 acres and is 14 percent contained, CNN reports.

It has injured five people, destroyed 650 structures and damaged 40 others.
