East Bay Hotel Named One Of World's Best In 2024
A luxury resort in Berkeley received high praise for the fourth year running from international readers of Condé Nast Traveler.
BERKELEY, CA — Berkeley's historic Claremont Club & Spa is one of the 50 best hotels in the world, according to a survey of more than half a million people around the globe by Condé Nast Traveler.
The travel magazine tallied 575,048 votes for its 37th annual Readers' Choice Awards to chart the best places to stay in 2024, from a Ritz-Carlton in Doha to a 10-person bed and breakfast in Telluride, Colorado.
The castle-like Claremont Club & Spa made the list for the fifth time in seven years, placing 23rd, which Traveler celebrated as "a breath of respite from the land of tech giants." Having played host to Louis Armstrong, Frank Lloyd Wright, and scores of other notable figures over the years, Traveler also highlighted the resort's ability to keep up with the times.

"Newly renovated guest rooms bring this historic landmark into the modern age," Traveler noted. "Soft blue and grey palettes make these spacious rooms feel soothing and opulent. There are sleek, modernized bathrooms to match — neutral wallpaper and chandeliers set the mood — while oversized soaking rubs provide a place for R&R."
In another win for the Bay Area, readers voted The Lodge at Bodega Bay as the best hotel in the world, celebrating its idyllic location on the Sonoma coast, secluded beaches and fireside lounge.
