Gilman Street Closed In Both Directions

BERKELEY, CA — Both directions of Gilman Street in Berkeley will likely be closed until at least 5 p.m. Wednesday after a truck crashed into the Interstate Highway 80 overcrossing, Caltrans officials said.

An oversized truck hit the east side of the Highway 80 overcrossing at Gilman Street at 10:45 a.m.

One lane of the freeway has been shut down to accommodate crews who are inspecting the overcrossing and assessing the damage, according to Caltrans.

Gilman Street is closed at the site of the crash and Berkeley police are directing motorists to the frontage road and other detour routes. Residents and visitors are being asked to avoid the area.

The truck did not damage an ongoing Caltrans project at the interchange, officials with Caltrans said.
