No Connection Between Berkeley and Vallejo Homicides, Police Say

Berkeley police refute reports that Berkeley homicide victim Kenneth Warren, 35, was related to a man fatally shot in Vallejo Tuesday, although they were friends at one time.

After investigating the possibility of a connection between and that of a Vallejo man Tuesday, Berkeley police say the two incidents are not related.

Following Warren's death, Vallejo resident Dorian Wells, 38, posted a Facebook update referencing the homicide in Berkeley, stating: "Man, they killed my cuzin last night."

Two sets of detectives investigated the possible connection between the two men and concluded that the victims "were friends at one time but not the best friends and had not been in contact for many years,"  Sgt. Mary Kusmiss explained in a press statement.

Thursday morning, the Vallejo Times-Herald reported the possible connection in an article that claimed Walls had also discussed the motive for the Berkeley shooting, saying on the social networking site that the incident was over a woman.

Berkeley and Vallejo police are investigating the cases separately, according to Kusmiss, who added that "there is no identifiable nexus" between the two homicides.
