Poetry, Music in Redwoods at UC Botanical Garden

When Homer recited his poetry outdoors to music many years ago, he didn't have redwoods towering above.

But if it's redwoods you want with your outdoor poetry and music, you'll be in luck this Wednesday night when three local poets and a musical trio offer their words and notes at the UC Berkeley Botanical Garden.

The "Music + Poetry in the Redwoods" program features poets Keith Ekiss, Jennifer Foerster, and Tess Taylor, and a trio of musicians led by Rob Reich.

The garden's event announcement offers these thumbnail biographies of the poets:

Tess Taylor was the 2010-2011 Amy Clampitt Resident. Her chapbook, The Misremembered World, was published by the Poetry Society of America. Her book The Forage House is forthcoming from Red Hen Press. She reviews poetry for NPR’s All Things Considered and teaches writing at UC Berkeley. She lives in El Cerrito, California. 

Jennifer Elise Foerster has an MFA in Writing from Vermont College of Fine Arts, a BFA from the Institute of American Indian Arts, and was Wallace Stegner Fellow in Poetry at Stanford University. She is the author of Leaving Tulsa, published in 2013 by University of Arizona Press.

Keith Ekiss is a Jones Lecturer in Creative Writing at Stanford University and a former Wallace Stegner Fellow. He is the author of Pima Road Notebook (New Issues Poetry & Prose, 2010) and translator of The Fire’s Journey (Tavern Books, 2013) by the Costa Rican poet Eunice Odio.

Those attending the event in the garden's Redwood Grove Amphitheater are encouraged to bring a picnic. The garden is located at 200 Centennial Drive.
