Police Blotter: Female Robbed, Injured in Assault; Home Broken Into

The Berkeley police log for July 28 through Aug. 10 includes the robbery of a cell phone in an assault that injured a female victim on Bancroft, the theft of a laptop and camera from a residence on Fulton and a loud party on Fraternity Row.

July 28

Loud Reports, Berkeley Marina

On Sunday, July 28, 2013 at approximately 10:25 p.m. officers responded to the Berkeley Marina for reports of loud reports in the area.  Officers arrived on scene and located a subject who was using fireworks.  Officers were able to confiscate the illegal fireworks.

Robbery, 1700 Block of Shattuck Avenue

On Monday, July 29, 2013 at approximately 6:11 a.m. a robbery occurred in the 1700 block of Shattuck Avenue.  The suspect entered a business in the 1700 block of Shattuck Avenue and confronted an employee inside.  The suspect attempted to rob the business, but was unable to get anything.  The suspect then fled the business. 

The suspect is described as:

“Hispanic Male, 5’10”, Medium Build wearing a black hat, black jacket, black jeans, black backpack, armed

July 30

Suspicious Person, 1500 Block of Prince Street

On Tuesday, July 30, 2013 at approximately 11:18 p.m. neighbors reported a suspicious person in the 1500 block of Prince Street.  The neighbor reported hearing sounds of someone tampering with a window and possibly breaking into a residence.  BPD officers arrived and contacted a subject.  It turned out he had locked himself out of the apartment and had to break a window to get in.  The incident proved O.K.

July 31

Loud Music, 2400 Block of Piedmont Avenue

On Wednesday, July 31, 2013 at approximately 10:44 p.m. a caller reported loud music from a multi-unit residential building in the 2400 block of Piedmont Avenue.  An officer was dispatched to the location and located a group out front.  After speaking with the group, they agreed to quiet the noise and move inside.

August 1

Person Down, 5th Street/University Avenue

On Thursday, August 1, 2013 at approximately 6:17 p.m. a caller reported a person down in the bushes near the intersection of 5th Street and University Avenue.  The caller was concerned because the person appeared unresponsive.  An officer arrived at the location and evaluated the subject.  The Berkeley Fire Department was summoned for the subject, who was then transported to a local hospital for treatment. 

August 2

Suspicious Vehicle, 1100 Block of Euclid Avenue

On Friday, August 2, 2013 at approximately 9:11 p.m. a caller reported a suspicious person sitting inside a vehicle in the 1100 block of Euclid Avenue.  The caller reported that someone had been sitting in the vehicle for the past three nights.  An officer responded to the location and located the vehicle.  However, the vehicle was unoccupied. 

August 3

Auto Burglary, 1700 Block of 8th Street

On Saturday, August 3, 2013 at approximately 6:03 p.m. the victim called BPD to report their vehicle had been broken into.  The victim parked their vehicle in the 1700 block of 8th Street.  When they returned to their vehicle they discovered someone had broken in and taken their purse. 

August 4

Robbery, 2000 Block of University Avenue

On Sunday, August 4, 2013 at approximately 4:31 p.m. a robbery occurred in the 2000 block of University Avenue.  The victim was moving property into a residential building in the block.  The suspect attempted to steal a box of the victim’s property.  The victim and suspect struggled over the property.  The victim feared for her safety, and let go of the property.  The suspect removed a bottle from the case and fled on foot.  The suspect was detained by police and later arrested for robbery.  The suspect is a male, 42 years old of Berkeley. 

August 5

Burglary, 2400 Block of Fulton Street

On Monday, August 5, 2013 at approximately 3:19 p.m. the victim called BPD to report their residence was broken into.  The unknown suspect entered the home by breaking one of the windows.  The suspect stole several items which included a camera and laptop.

August 6

Stolen Auto Recovered, 1400 Block of Hearst Avenue

On Tuesday, August 6, 2013 at approximately 2:09 p.m. a Parking Enforcement Officer reported locating a stolen vehicle in the 1400 block of Hearst Avenue.  An officer responded to the location to handle the incident.  The vehicle was reported stolen out of Fresno.  Recovered was a 2003 Mercury, SUV, gold in color. 

August 7

Robbery, 1800 Block of Bancroft Way

On Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at approximately 11:30 p.m. a robbery occurred in the 1800 block of Bancroft Way.  The victim was walking in the area when she was approached by the suspects.  The suspects attacked the female, physically assaulting her.  During the attack the victim's cell phone was taken.  The victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.   

The suspects are described as:

“Black Male, 20-30 years old, 6’, thin build wearing a gray shirt and dark pants.”

“Black Female, 20s, 5’5”, heavy set”

August 8

Traffic Hazard, 2700 Block of Walker Street

On Thursday, August 8, 2013 at approximately 11:23 a.m. a caller reported a vehicle partially blocking the roadway making it difficult for vehicles to turn.  An officer responded the location and did locate a vehicle partially blocking the roadway.  The vehicle was cited for the violation. 

August 9

Vandalism, 1800 Block of Woolsey Street

On Friday, August 9, 2013 at approximately 1:12 p.m. the victim called reporting an unknown suspect vandalized a building in the 1800 block of Woolsey Street.  The suspect using what appears to be a black mark drew a symbol on the door of the building. 

August 10

Loud Reports, Alcatraz Avenue/Sacramento Street

On Saturday, August 10, 2013 at approximately 9:55 p.m. BPD officers responded to the area of Sacramento Street and Alcatraz Avenue for multiple reports of loud reports in the area.  Officers were able to determine the loud reports were fireworks.
