Three East Bay Earthquakes Within 24 Hours

UPDATE, 8/24/11: A third, 3.5 magnitude quake shook the East Bay at 9:57 a.m. Wednesday. The epicenter was in the same area as two quakes the night before.
A magnitude-3.6 earthquake jolted the East Bay late Tuesday night, followed by a 2.3 magnitude quake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The first quake was reported just after 11:35 p.m. Tuesday. Its epicenter was reported about 3 miles northeast of San Leandro with a depth of approximately 5.7 miles. About five minutes later, the 2.3 magnitude quake struck near the same spot.

Berkeley Patch readers reported feeling the earthquakes over Twitter, and more Patch readers as far south as Newark and as far east as Dublin reported feeling a significant shift on the earth’s ground.
The late night earthquakes come the same day that a 5.8-magnitude tremor hit the East Coast, about 38 miles outside of Richmond, Va. and an estimated 100 miles southwest of the nation’s capital.
