Traffic Chaos Warning: UC Berkeley Move-In Dates

The Berkeley Police Department will close some streets and reroute others. See the list of streets and dates.

BERKELEY, CA — THE 2024 UC Berkeley student move-in is scheduled Tuesday, Wednesday, and Sunday of this week.

The Berkeley Police Department is warning that traffic on City of Berkeley streets will be impacted.

"During the Move-In, you will see students and their families moving through Berkeley streets to check into their new residences and unload belongings," the police department warns. "If your daily commute involves streets on the Southside or Downtown (near Oxford and University), please allow extra time for increased traffic, street closures, and/or detours."

Berkeley Street Closures

On August 21st and August 25th from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m.: Full road closure on Walnut Street, between University Ave and Berkeley Way.

On August 20th and August 21st from 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.: The eastbound lane of Channing Way will be changed to “westbound one-way” from College Avenue to Bowditch Street. No eastbound traffic will be allowed in this section.

On August 25th 8 a.m. – 7 p.m.: The eastbound lane of Channing Way will be changed to “westbound one-way” from Bowditch St to Telegraph Ave. No eastbound traffic will be allowed in this section.
