BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Homelessness nonprofit Safe Place for Youth raised in excess of $125,000 during its recent Evening of Inspiration, held at the Beverly Hills home of board member Peter Micelli, who serves as the CEO of Range Media Partners, according to a release.

The event was meant to raise awareness and money for SPY's efforts in delivering support and resources for young people experiencing homelessness and those at risk of becoming homeless across Los Angeles. Each year the organization serves 1,000 unhoused people ages 18-25 with housing, drop-in services, health and wellness programming, case management, employment services and more, according to the organization.

The Evening of Inspiration, held in June, included live music performances by Yogi and Naala Jay, participants in SPY's Healing Arts Program, which seeks to nurture creative expression. Actor Jermaine Crawford served as emcee; Crawford is a long-time supporter and volunteer with SPY's programs.

“I was exposed to the severity of youth homelessness in America when I portrayed the character Dukie Weems on the HBO series “The Wire.” I began my advocacy in 2008. Even way back then, SPY has been the number one trailblazer for youth outreach on the West Coast. Simply put, they do outreach the right way. Many years later, I am honored to continue supporting such a worthy cause and organization,” Crawford said in a release.

The organization recognized Colin Gray, Geneva Vogelheim, and Matern Law Group and Matthew J. Matern with "Evening of Inspiration Awards," in recognition of their involvement, volunteerism and donations to SPY.
