BEVERLY HILLS, CA — A new line of Beverly Hills-themed footwear is on the way after the City Council on Dec. 5 approved the use of its city shield by Sketchers.

The line — Beverly Hills by Sketchers — features bold, colorful sandals, slippers, boots, slip-ons and sneakers. The city shield gets a colorful riff on many of the items. (You can view photos of the shoes here.)

The city's approval of the new line comes a year after the council OK'd an earlier Sketchers line. This new contract builds on the old one, extending the shield license for another year.

The city received a one-time $25,000 payment and will continue to collect royalties for every pair of shoes sold.

"The Beverly Hills Shield logo is a symbol of quality and elegance representing the sophistication and classic styling of an iconic internationally renowned city. It's something that people around the world want to connect with and celebrate," Skechers wrote in its proposal last year. "As a global footwear brand with extensive experience in both lifestyle and high fashion collaborations, Skechers is positioned to develop a collection featuring Beverly Hills symbols and imagery that honors the city's treasured prestige."

Last year's deal also included a stipulation that Skechers employ "safeguards to protect against any child labor or trafficked labor in production," according to a city staff report.

The shoes will be marketed globally by Skechers.
