Casting Director Elected President Of Motion Picture Academy

David Rubin is the first casting director to become academy president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

BEVERLY HILLS, CA — The Board of Governors of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences elected casting director David Rubin as its president Tuesday evening.

Rubin is the first casting director to become academy president. He has cast films such as "The English Patient," "Men in Black," "Hairspray," "Lars and the Real Girl," "The Talented Mr. Ripley," "Four Weddings and a Funeral," "Get Shorty," "My Best Friend's Wedding," "William Shakespeare's Romeo + Juliet" and "Fried Green Tomatoes."

Rubin succeeds John Bailey, who was barred from running for re-election because of term limits.
