Expect DUI Checkpoints In Beverly Hills On St. Patrick's Day
The city will crack down on intoxicated driving later this month with a random DUI checkpoint.
BEVERLY HILLS, CA — Beverly Hills police will have a sobriety and driver's license checkpoint in the city on March 17, St. Patrick's Day.
The checkpoint will last from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. at an undisclosed location, according to the department. Drivers will be stopped by officers who will check that drivers have a valid driver's license and that drivers are not under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
"The purpose of the checkpoint is to promote public safety, increase awareness of the dangers associated with impaired driving, and serve as a deterrent to potential impaired and unlicensed drivers," the department said in a news release.

The checkpoint is inspired by a California Office of Traffic Safety educational initiative called "DUI Doesn’t Just Mean Booze," which reminds drivers that alcohol is not the only substance that impairs driving. Some prescription medications and marijuana can also lead to a DUI, according to police.
The city on Feb. 28 discussed traffic safety as pedestrian deaths and reckless driving have significantly increased over recent years.
