Meals on Wheels Hosts Too Good to Be True: How to Avoid Being Scammed

Join MOW Diablo Region for a free Zoom on how to avoid scams. While anyone can become a victim, seniors are often the number one target.

June is Elder Abuse Awareness Month! In response to a number of seniors who are falling victims to scams, Meals on Wheels Diablo Region will host a free Zoom, Too Good to Be True: How to Prevent Being Scammed, on Thursday, June 23rd, 2022 from 4:00 to 5:00 PM.

While anyone can become a victim of scams, seniors are often the number one target. In this free informative Zoom, attendees can learn different and new techniques that scammers use to prey on vulnerable people, how to prevent loved ones from falling victim to scams, financial and legal recourses, psychological effects of falling victim to scams, and personal stories to learn from.

This informative program was a result of our Elder Abuse Counselor seeing an increased number of our clients being scammed. One client fell victim to scamming and lost over $300,000 to someone who they considered a “friend”. “We believe that a webinar with expert advice and a live Q&A session for attendees is a great way for us to address the wide range of concerns related to scamming,” says Caitlin Sly, Executive Director of Meals on Wheels Diablo Region. MOW Diablo Region is the only meals on wheels in the county and one of the few in the country that has an Elder Abuse Prevention Program.
