Caltrain Runs Modified Schedule As NTSB Investigates Crash
The National Transportation Board is investigating a train that caught fire after a Thursday collision.

SAN BRUNO, CA — Caltrain continues to run on a modified schedule following an on-track train fire in San Bruno that injured 13 people Thursday, numerous outlets report. The train, which was headed south from San Francisco toward San Jose, remains on the track Friday morning as the National Transportation Safety Board investigates.
Caltrain officials have said that once the NTSB releases custody of the site, they will begin to remove the train, repair tracks, and restore normal service.
On Friday, Caltrain is running a 69-train schedule, down from its usual 104. SamTrans buses are replacing trains between South San Francisco and Millbrae stations, and BART is providing free service for passengers transferring at Millbrae station. Riders should expect delays.

On Thursday morning, SB506 crashed with an equipment truck that was in the process of converting the tracks to be compatible with electric trains. The train burst on fire, causing one severe injury, five moderate injuries, and seven minor injuries amongst two crewmembers and eleven passengers. The train driver was taken to the hospital, according to Caltrain.
The train’s 75 passengers were immediately evacuated, and the fire was extinguished.
The electrification process has been suspended pending safety reviews, Caltrain said.
