School District To Receive More Than $1 Million
BCE will present two checks totaling more than $1 million at Tuesday's Board of Trustees meeting.

At the Burlingame Elementary School District Board of Trustees meeting Tuesday night, Burlingame Community for Education Foundation representatives will present the district with two checks--one for $800,000 and one for $500,000.
These checks, for a total of $1,300,000, are for the 2011-2012 school year. The initial $800,000 comes from regular BCE contributions and fundraising. The additional $500,000 was raised during the Game On campaign. Game On resulted from BCE and PTA volunteers mobilizing to raise additional money in the face of state funding cuts.
“Our aim is to minimize the impact of the cuts,” said Christine Thorsteinson of BCE back in April.

In addition to presenting the checks, BCE leaders will outline their goals for the current school year.
Also at the meeting, the trustees will receive information on transitional kindergarten. Senate Bill 1381 requires children who turn 5 years old prior to Sept. 1 to attend TK in order to begin kindergarten. The rule will take effect over a three-year period starting with the 2012-2013 school year.

Burlingame officials plan to create a transitional kindergarten program for those delayed in attending traditional kindergarten due to new regulations.
