Farr Johnen & Associates celebrates 40 years of top-notch client service

VENTURA, California – This year marks 40 years since father-and-son duo Gary and Glen Farr founded Farr Johnen & Associates, an insurance services firm built on deep community roots and a shared commitment to doing what’s right for clients.

Prior to starting the firm in 1985, Gary had become a seasoned insurance professional with decades of experience and a strong network across Southern California. Glen graduated from USC in 1981 and started his career at Connecticut Mutual. By the time they moved to Ventura County and opened Farr Johnen & Associates, Glen had already earned a reputation as a leader in the life insurance marketplace. A few years later, Brenda Farr joined to launch the firm’s employee benefits practice, providing health insurance solutions for local businesses.

Over time, the firm added a Santa Barbara office, grew its team, and expanded into estate and business succession planning, policy analysis, long-term care insurance, and disability insurance. In 2006, Jonathan Johnen joined, later becoming co-owner and managing partner, prompting the name change to Farr Johnen & Associates.

The firm’s guiding philosophy “It’s all about service” has earned the trust of financial advisors, CPAs, estate planners, and HR directors, who regularly refer their clients for individual insurance and employee benefits expertise.

The firm continues to have a family focus with Ali Farr McCarty representing the third generation of Farrs. Ali joined the firm in 2023 after working at Deloitte Consulting and Capital Group (American Funds). She holds an MBA from UCLA Anderson School of Management and is a licensed health and life insurance agent serving clients across both life-insurance and employee-benefits sides of the business. Ali’s experience at large corporations brings a new perspective and valuable network of relationships to the firm.

Leadership also includes Managing Director of Employee Benefits Ericka Malony, Director of Customer Service Kayla Hallowell, and Employee Benefits Service Lead Dani Barbar.
