Months-Long Construction Begins On Old Topanga Canyon, Mulholland Hwy

Come 2023, a long stretch of Mulholland Highway in Calabasas will have a new sidewalk.

CALABASAS, CA — Construction began Monday to put a sidewalk, crosswalk and retaining wall a long stretch of Mulholland Highway.

The contractor started traffic control set up Monday to prepare for work on the South side of Mulholland Highway between East and West Old Topanga Canyon.

The early stages of construction will include clearing, removals and grading on Mulholland Highway and retaining wall work, which will require a temporary K-rail to be put up.

A 24" storm drain will also be installed over the summer at the intersection of Mulholland Highway and West Old Topanga Canyon Road, according to Tatiana Holden, Deputy Public Works Director for Calabasas.

Ultimately, the construction will stretch from Old Topanga Canyon West to Old Topanga Canyon West, and at the intersection of Old Topanga Canyon Road and Palm Drive.

Construction is expected to finish in March 2023. The project will widen the shoulder on Mulholland Highway, add a sidewalk, revamp the pavement, improve storm drains and add a retaining wall on the road.

The construction will also bring a new traffic signal to Calabasas, revamp an existing traffic signal and improve the parking lot at Wild Walnut Park.
