The City of Calabasas is holding two senior center community "visioning workshops" this month in order to hear from the senior population exactly they would want in a senior center.
"Seniors will go through three separate stations which include up to 28 display boards, allowing the city to gain valuable input as we move forward with the development of a center," said Jeff Rubin, director of community services.
The information gleaned from the workshops will be presented at a future city council meeting.
"The aim is to take that [presentation] plus council comments and then [go through] an RFP process where we look to hire a design firm...," City Manager Tony Coroalles said at last week's council meeting.
The decision to move forward with a center came in response to the pleas and concerns of a local group who call themselves the “Savvy Seniors.”
A senior task force consisting of six local residents, Mayor Mary Sue Maurer and City Councilmember David Shapiro was formed in October of 2012 to start making headway for the proposed center.
The workshops, for Calabasas residents only, will take place on the following dates:
- Saturday, June 22, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Calabasas Founders Hall/Library
- Thursday, June 27, 5-8 p.m. at the Agoura Hills/Calabasas Community Center
