Wink Martindale Loves Calabasas

Wink Martindale has become an American icon as a game show host and disc jockey.

The long-time Calabasas resident is famous for such shows as Tic Tac Dough, High Rollers and Can You Top This? He has been awarded a star on the legendary Hollywood Walk of Fame and has been inducted into the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame. He discusses his rich, multi-storied life in his autobiography, Winking at Life.

On Wednesday, March 20, Martindale will host the Calabasas Savvy Seniors Luncheon and Spring Class Registration from 12-2 p.m.

Calabasas Patch: How long have you lived in Calabasas?          

Wink Martindale: 21 years

Patch: What do you love about living here?      

Martindale: The city is well run from the mayor through the administration. I love the cleanliness of Calabasas and the terrific choice of excellent restaurants. The Commons is among the best shopping centers in this entire area ... the friendliness of its people. 

Patch: Is this your first involvement with the Savvy Seniors?     

Martindale: Yes. But I've known of the Seniors good work for some time.

Patch: What's on the program for Wednesday's event?        

Martindale: I will talk about my love affair with the world of radio and television from the time I was old enough to know what a microphone was; my entry into the business and how it came about. I'll present three meaningful narratives I've recorded over the years, including my million seller "Deck of Cards"; "I.O.U.," a tribute to Moms; and "To A Sleeping Beauty," a Dad's thoughts as his daughter gets married "tomorrow." And though I've adapted to my life as a "senior," how and why I still enjoy being active in the business, currently with two television game shows in development. 

Patch: What's next for you?          

Martindale: Regarding the above response relative to new game shows–the titles are Treasure Hunt and Celebrity Sweepstakes... being developed for network and/or syndication with the Phil Gurin Company (Phil is also a resident of Calabasas). I am currently producing nine specials for Sirius XM's Siriusly Sinatra channel, which will air now through November: March, Nat "King" Cole; April, Rosemary Clooney; May, Sammy Davis, Jr.; June, Gordon Jenkins; July, Jo Stafford/Paul Weston; August, songwriters who wrote for "The Voice" - Sinatra; September, Ella Fitzgerald; October, Perry Como; November, Peggy Lee.
