📰 News we're reading

1. New Welding Education and Testing Facility Opens in Camarillo (venturabreeze.com) — A new American Welding Society–accredited education and testing center has opened at the Ventura County Office of Education’s Career Education Center in Camarillo, giving local students and residents a nearby path to nationally recognized welding certifications. The facility offers affordable hands-on training and certification testing, aiming to prepare residents for high-paying welding careers that strengthen Ventura County’s workforce and economy.

2. Rideshare driver accused of raping unconscious woman in Ventura County (foxla.com) — Camarillo residents are being urged to contact detectives if they have information about a rideshare driver accused of assaulting an unconscious passenger during a trip that continued around the city. Ventura County investigators say the November incident led to an arrest, and they believe there may be additional victims who have not yet come forward.

3. Details arise from deputy crash, another one in Santa Rosa Valley area (vcstar.com) — A multi-vehicle crash involving a Ventura County sheriff’s deputy briefly shut down the eastbound lane of Santa Rosa Road between Camarillo and Moorpark, sending three people to the hospital with minor injuries. Officials also released findings from a separate deputy-involved collision in Fillmore earlier this month, where investigators say another driver ran a red light before being struck.

4. All Ball Sports: Mustang rebuild turns into reload (easyreadernews.com) — Mira Costa’s boys basketball team just rolled past visiting Camarillo High, 61-46, using its trademark full‑court pressure to stifle an 8‑2 Scorpions squad. Camarillo briefly kept pace with a pair of deep buzzer‑beaters, but the Mustangs’ depth and emerging stars pulled away for good. Local hoops fans can also note Mira Costa’s girls team is grinding through a tough schedule and eyeing a playoff push.

5. Glass House in fight with Ventura County over property taxes (vcstar.com) — Ventura County officials and Glass House Brands are locked in a high-stakes property tax dispute over the valuation of the company’s massive cannabis farm just outside Camarillo, with millions in potential tax refunds on the line. A county appeals board will decide by September 2026 whether to cut the assessment, a ruling that could affect future tax revenue and cannabis-related development near the city.
