2 South Bay Cafes Among Bay Area's Best New Spots
An old 7-Eleven turned into a modern cafe, and a new teahouse with international inspirations landed coveted spots on the list.

SAN JOSE, CA — A pair of recent additions to San Jose's dining scene have landed on a list of the Bay Area's best new places to grab coffee and tea.
Staffers at The Mercury News curated their nine favorite newcomers around the region, from hot new matcha spots in the East Bay to a cheesecake-forward cafe on the Peninsula.
In the South Bay, the newspaper shouted out Moonwake Coffee Roasters in San Jose, where a couple transformed an old 7-Eleven into a sleek cafe featuring a live coffee tree and roasting station. The don't-miss recommendations include Moonwake's cardamom orange latte, espresso selections and a rotating menu of drip coffee.

In San Jose's Berryessa district, The Mercury News highlighted Haiku Teahouse, whose globetrotting tea and coffee menu draws inspiration from Taiwan, Vietnam, China, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines and South Korea. Crowd favorites include the corn latte, crafted with corn milk and ice cream, topped with whipped cream.
