Bay Area Blood Donor Center To Reopen Amid Urgent Blood Shortage

The center closed for necessary renovations during a crucial blood shortage.

CAMPBELL, CA — The Stanford Blood Center announced that its South Bay Donation Center in Campbell will reopen on Wednesday at a particularly crucial time given the critical shortage of Type O-blood and the urgent need for all other blood types.

In May, the Stanford Blood Center announced in May the South Bay Donation Center located at 295 E. Hamilton Ave in Campbell would close for renovations.

Over the past year, plumbing problems have repeatedly disrupted operations at this location, negatively affecting donor experiences.

“It’s time to fix the root cause and make long-term improvements to better serve the patient and donor communities,” a press release stated.

SBC opened a temporary platelet donation center at 50 E. Hamilton Ave., Suite 200 in Campbell but it closed Tuesday.

The Stanford Blood Center also said it is experiencing a critical blood shortage.
