Boy Struck And Killed In Crosswalk In Santa Clara County

A boy walking with a woman in a San Jose crosswalk was struck and killed, becoming the city's 26th pedestrian fatality this year.

SAN JOSE, CA — The San Jose Police Department is investigating its 26th pedestrian fatality of this year after a car hit a woman and a boy walking in a crosswalk at the intersection of Castlemont Avenue and Driftwood Drive on Friday.

At 8:03 a.m., officers responded to reports of two pedestrians being hit at a marked crosswalk at the intersection.

According to the initial investigation, a woman driving a 2022 Mercedes Crossover was turning left from Castlemont Avenue to go eastbound on Driftwood Drive when she hit the pedestrians. The driver remained on the scene and cooperated with the investigation, said police.

The woman broke her leg but is in stable condition, and the boy died from his injuries at the hospital, said police. The boy's identity will be released by the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office after notifying next of kin.
