SAN JOSE, CA — The San Jose Police Department will staff a DUI checkpoint Friday evening at an undisclosed location in the city, officials announced Wednesday.

The checkpoint will operate from 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. and screen for drivers suspected of being under the influence of alcohol or marijuana or impaired by certain prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs.

"Impaired driving is preventable," said Lieutenant Nqui Scherry. "It's a choice. If you've been drinking or have taken drugs that impair, make the right choice by finding a sober driver or alternate transportation to take you places."
