SAN JOSE, CA -- A man who walked away from the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation's Alternative Custody Program on Thursday was apprehended and back in custody Saturday, CDCR officials said.

Nicarandro Sanchez was seen by CDCR agents sitting in a parked car in the San Jose area shortly before being apprehended at 12:10 p.m. Saturday without incident or force, the CDCR said. Sanchez is being taken to the San Quentin State Prison, and his case will be referred to the Santa Clara District Attorney's Office for consideration of escape charges.

Sanchez, 43, was received into CDCR custody from Santa Clara County in August 2018, to serve a three-year sentence for vehicle theft with prior vehicle-related theft convictions. He was released to the ACP program on April 3, was instructed to report to a San Jose parole office the next morning, and failed to do so.
