Ex-49ers Star Aldon Smith Pleads No Contest In 2021 DUI: Report

REDWOOD CITY, CA — A former 49ers defensive star with a troubled past on Thursday pleaded no contest to charges in connection with a 2011 DUI crash, The Mercury News reports.
Aldon Smith, 33, was arrested Dec. 6, 2021 after a crash on an Interstate 280 off-ramp in Redwood City in which he rear-ended a Recology truck and allegedly offered to pay off the driver for his silence, the report said.
Smith’s blood alcohol content at the time of the crash was .288, more than triple the legal limit, according to the report.

The driver suffered minor injuries.

Smith played four seasons for San Francisco (2011-2014) and one with the Oakland Raiders (2015). He played his last season with the Dallas Cowboys in 2020 after serving multiple suspensions.
Smith recorded 52.5 career sacks, of which 44 came during his time in San Francisco.
He was a Defensive Rookie of the Year in 2011 and an All-Pro in 2012.
