SJ Officers Shot At During Welfare Check: Police
Police allege a man shot at them during a welfare check in San Jose and lept from a second-story window before he was arrested.
SAN JOSE, CA — A San Jose man faces an attempted murder charge after police allege he fired shots at them during a welfare check.
The police department said someone reported a man throwing objects out the window of a Delaware Avenue home in the early morning hours Sunday. Officers arrived at the home and attempted to speak with the man, but he refused to come outside. As the officers walked away, police allege the man fired multiple gunshots in their direction.
Police called in the Tactical Negotatior Unit and MERGE Unit to attempt to negotiate with the man. When that failed, police said they used a "non-lethal chemical agent" to encourage him to surrender. The man jumped from a sexcond-story window and was taken into custody. He was treated for injuries related to the jump at the hospital.
