Man Found Dead Near Pioneer High School Is Identified
The San Jose resident was found fatally shot in a car early Sunday when officers responded to a report of a crash near Pioneer High School.

SAN JOSE - Police Wednesday identified a man who died from at least one gunshot wound early Sunday morning in San Jose as 59-year-old Darren Boice.
Boice, a San Jose resident, was found dead in his car when officers responded at 3:45 a.m. to a report of a car into a pole in the 5600 block of Via Monte Drive near Pioneer High School.
Boice was the driver of the car and medics pronounced him dead at the scene, police said. He crashed the car in an alley behind an apartment complex.

“He was a neighborhood famous cat. He was well-known,” said Necko Carter Sr., who lives in the neighborhood, in an interview with Insidebayarea.com.
Carter told the paper (Boice) “had a garage full of toys that he would give to local children. He was sometimes known as ’country D.C.’ because of his tendency to burst into a country song.”

“He was a good guy,” Carter told the publication.
A suspect has neither been caught nor identified, according to police.
