Man Killed By SUV While Trying To Clear Branch From Road
This incident was the 45th traffic death of 2024 on the streets of San Jose.
SAN JOSE, CA — A man was killed Monday in San Jose when he was struck by a vehicle as he was attempting to clear a fallen tree branch from the roadway.
At 8:44 p.m., San Jose police responded to the area of Bird and Hull avenues for a report of a vehicle collision involving a pedestrian.
Officers said a 2019 red Chevrolet Tahoe driven by a man was traveling north on Bird Avenue when it struck an adult male pedestrian standing in the roadway trying to clear the tree branch.

The victim was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead. His name was not immediately available.
The driver of the Chevy Tahoe also struck the large tree branch and left the scene to seek medical treatment for injuries related to the collision. Police said he is expected to survive.

Police said the driver was unaware he had struck a pedestrian and alcohol or drugs were also not a factor in the crash.
This is the 45th fatal collision and 45th traffic death of 2024 on the streets of San Jose. It's also the city's 18th pedestrian death of 2024.
