Pedestrian Killed In South Bay Crash
The pedestrian, an adult male, sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.
SAN JOSÉ, CA — A pedestrian was fatally struck by a vehicle Monday morning, San José police said.
The California Highway Patrol at around 7 a.m. initially responded to the area of Jackson Avenue and the Highway 680 on-ramp on the report a traffic collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
The case was turned over to San José police at approximately 8:30 a.m., when it was determined the accident occurred in the agency’s jurisdiction.

Investigators determined than a 2011 Toyota sedan driven by an adult female driver, was traveling northbound on Jackson Avenue, making a left turn onto the Highway 680 southbound on-ramp when the vehicle struck an adult male pedestrian walking southbound in the crosswalk of the on-ramp.
The pedestrian sustained major injuries and was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Detectives from the SJPD Traffic Investigations Unit (TIU) will conduct a follow-up investigation.
This is San José’s second fatal collision and third traffic death of 2023. It is the South Bay city’s first pedestrian fatality of this year.
