The term "rooster" actually originates right here in the United States, but the term "cockerel" is the older and more commonly used name, particularly in the United Kingdom and Ireland.

Although this particular cockerel makes no sound, the common belief is that they crow early in the morning. But in actuality, roosters crow at all hours of the day, some all day, depending on your luck.
