Pic of the Day: Connecting East to West Campbell Avenue

This neon lights the way between downtown Campbell and the Pruneyard.

The landscape between downtown Campbell and the is changing.

East Campbell Avenue, near has been widened, there are four installations of at each of the four corners of the bridge above the Los Gatos Creek Trail and at night, bright technicolor neon shines the way below the Highway 17 overpass.

These lights, which were unofficially turned on in February are part of the and are meant to brighten a formerly dark area of the busy street.

The different colors used in this installation are meant to "make it more inviting and fun," says Lisa Peterson, Campbell Civil Engineer on the project.

"We wanted to be a little more artistic than just plain white lights," Peterson says.

Originally, the configuration of the lights was a criss-cross design but CalTrain squashed that idea due to accessibility issues.
