SJ Man Arrested, Accused Of Killing Mother: Police
The man drove his severely-injured mother to the hospital then fled. When officers responded, they searched for the son as the suspect.

SAN JOSE, CA — A 35-year-old man was arrested Monday on accusations he killed his mother after dropping her off last Thursday afternoon at the hospital where she was placed on life support and officers responded, the San Jose Police Department reported.
Officers were told the victim identified as Cynthia Mykkanen, 57, would probably not survive. She was taken off life support and pronounced dead Monday.
A follow up investigation by homicide detectives determined the suspect identified as Ryan Garner, the victim's son, as the person responsible for the assault. The investigation revealed that the suspect assaulted the victim inside their residence on the 3300 block of Cortese Circle in San Jose.

The suspect drove the victim to the Regional Medical Center where he dropped her off then fled prior to police arrival. Later that night, the suspect was located driving his vehicle on U.S. Highway 101 at Blossom Hill Road in San Jose where he was apprehended by a police K9 and taken into custody. The suspect was taken to a local hospital for injuries sustained from a dog bite and booked into Santa Clara County Jail initially on attempted murder allegations. His booking charges have since been upgraded to murder since the woman died.
This is the city's 21st homicide of 2019.
