SJ Woman Arrested For Fatal Felony Hit-and-run

The woman was arrested while pulled aside after fatally striking a pedestrian on Nieman Boulevard Thursday.

SAN JOSE, CA -- A pedestrian was killed early Thursday morning in a hit-and-run collision in San Jose, police said.

Officers responded at 5:39 a.m. after someone called to report a body in the road near Nieman Boulevard and Laddie Way. Police arrived and discovered a woman there.

Police said the preliminary investigation suggests the woman was crossing east across Nieman Boulevard, north of Laddie Way, when a light-colored 2000 Toyota 4Runner traveling north on Nieman struck her.

Police said the driver, identified as 65-year-old San Jose resident Delilah Paray, stopped, got out of her Toyota and approached the woman who was still alive.

Police said then Paray got back in her Toyota and drove away without providing identification or calling for help.

The death is the city's 13th fatal collision and 10th fatal vehicle versus pedestrian collision this year.
