South Bay Crash Victim Suffers Fatal Cardiac Trauma: Cops
The victim died from injuries suffered more than three months ago, authorities said.
SAN JOSÉ, CA A man has died more than three months after suffering cardiac trauma following a traffic collision in San José.
According to an announcement from the San José Police Department, the Santa Clara County Coroner's Office notified police Wednesday that the man -- whose name was not released -- had died and an autopsy concluded that the cardiac trauma occurred following the May 9 collision.
The announcement noted that at the time of the incident, it was unknown if the cardiac trauma happened prior to the collision or as a result of it.

The police announcement did not specify the date of the man's death, just the date police were notified of his death by the coroner's office.
On May 9, officers responded to a report of a collision at 9:06 p.m. in the area of Santa Teresa Boulevard and Allen Avenue.

Police said a 2002 Lexus sedan traveling westbound on Santa Teresa was rear ended by a 2005 Chevrolet truck. Both drivers were taken to local hospitals with injuries they were expected to survive.
The driver of the Lexus was later determined to have suffered cardiac trauma. His death marks the city's 43rd fatal collision and the 45th traffic death of 2022, police said.
