8 New Pickleball Courts Coming To Carlsbad

The city already has six outdoor pickleball courts at Poinsettia Community Park.

CARLSBAD, CA — Carlsbad will soon get eight new pickleball courts.

Three and a half months after approving an updated Parks and Recreation Department master plan that showed the increasing popularity of pickleball in Carlsbad, the City Council approved locations for the design and construction of eight new outdoor courts.

There are four proposed courts at Calavera Hills Community Park and four proposed courts at Stagecoach Community Park. The city already has six outdoor pickleball courts at Poinsettia Community Park.

The new courts will include lights for night play and special matting on the perimeter fencing designed to reduce noise, according to the city. The courts will be open the same hours as the parks, from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and be locked overnight.

The city now how to solicit and hire a design consultant, then complete an environmental analysis and permitting process. Finally, the city will need to prepare construction plans and put them out to bid.

The new courts are expected to open in about 24 to 28 months, according to the city. The courts are estimated to cost between $2 million to $2.4 million.
