Carlsbad seeking nominations for Citizen of the Year
Nominees for the more than 50 year old program must be Carlsbad residents.

CARLSBAD, CA — The City of Carlsbad is now accepting applications for Citizen of the Year, an annual award recognizing Carlsbad residents who have provided outstanding service to their community.
The Citizens of the Year program is more than 50 years old and honors community members who have given their time and energy toward the civic improvement, beautification and betterment of the City of Carlsbad, The city said in a news release.

A five-person committee appointed by the mayor will consider the following criteria in selecting up to two honorees:
- Long and faithful service to the community.
- Distinguished service in a position of responsibility.
- Enterprise, initiative, diligence, and care in the performance of a specific volunteer assignment.
- Outstanding contribution to the development, growth and welfare of the community.
"The award is not intended to recognize elected officials or those who receive compensation for their efforts," the city said. "It is intended to recognize volunteer, unpaid effort of a significant nature."

Nominees must be Carlsbad residents but can be nominated by someone who is not a resident.
To nominate a Carlsbad community member, please complete the nomination form on the city’s website. Nomination forms are also available at City Hall, 1200 Carlsbad Village Drive.
The deadline for nominations is March 31, 2023.
