SAN MARCOS, CA — There's a new bakery in San Diego's North County.

World-renowned pastry chef Christophe Rull opened his namesake bakery, Christophe Rull Patisserie, over the weekend at North City in San Marcos.

The Michelin-trained pastry chef and television star's menu features his signature French pastries and breakfast items, including pull-apart cinnamon rolls, buttery croissants, quiches and handcrafted macarons.

With a career spanning over 20 years, Rull has worked in Michelin-starred kitchens in France and held top roles at luxury hotels including Park Hyatt Aviara, where he built a local following, and most recently, Hotel Bel-Air, where he led the pastry program that was ranked fifth on The World's 50 Best World Class Patisseries list in 2025.

Rull's work blends classical French training layered with a Southern California point of view. He has won several Food Network competitions, including "Halloween Wars" and "Holiday Wars," and was featured in the reality television baking series "Bake Squad" on Netflix. Earlier this summer, he appeared on Food Network's new series "Super Mega Cakes," hosted by Duff Goldman.

"Opening this patisserie is very personal," said Rull, who also lives in the growing urban community of new homes, businesses and restaurants.

"North City is now home, and I look forward to sharing everything I love about pastry and chocolate not only with San Marcos residents but across San Diego and beyond," he said. "The North City community is becoming known for its locally grown restaurants and specialty eateries, and I’m proud to be a part of it. There's so much more to come."

According to the French pastry shop, future plans include pastry classes led by Rull himself, as well as a chocolate program that will highlight his artistic and competitive background in chocolate work.

"Bringing Chef Christophe's patisserie to North City is a huge win not just for food lovers, but for our whole community," said Andy Tenn, senior manager at North City. "He's a world-class talent, but he's also a neighbor. That mix of quality and authenticity is exactly what we are creating here at North City for the long-term."

Christophe Rull Patisserie is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily at 251 North City Drive, Suite 121, in San Marcos.
