Bellflower Man Killed in Solo Crash on Angeles Crest Highway Near Altadena

An 18-year-old Bellflower man was killed in a solo car crash on Angeles Crest Highway north of Altadena, California Highway Patrol officials said.
Aaron Elias Martinez crashed his vehicle about 2 p.m. Saturday as he traveled eastbound on the highway, according to the CHP.

CHP investigators say the victim was driving at an average speed, and when approaching a curve in the roadway he continued straight and hit the side of the mountain. He drove up the mountain at an angle, causing his vehicle to overturn onto the roadway and slide on its roof about 70 feet, according to the CHP.
The impact and sliding of the vehicle caused fatal head trauma to the driver, officials said. He was wearing camouflage clothing and was initially believed to be a veteran, but officials determined he was not in the military and had been wearing the clothing for his camping trip.

The cause of the crash remained under investigation.
