Deputy-Involved Shooting Outside Norwalk Target
BREAKING: Deputies went to the location on a report of a man with a gun.

NORWALK, CA --A man shot himself during a shootout with deputies in Norwalk on Friday, and was hospitalized in critical condition, the sheriff's department reported.
The shooting happened shortly after 9 a.m. outside a Target store in the 10000 block of Firestone Boulevard, according to Nicole Nishida of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.
Deputies went to the location on a report of a man with a gun, Nishida said.

The man was taken to a hospital for treatment of an unspecified injury, she said.
A shootout with deputies ensued, and the man shot and wounded himself, authorities said. His name was not immediately released. This shooting happened two days after a sheriff's deputy was gunned down following a burglary in Lancaster.

Sgt. Steve Owen, 53, a 29-year veteran, was killed responding to the reported burglary Wednesday. The suspect was wounded in the shooting and immediately arrested.
