Johnson Leads Yoo By Just 22 Votes In Latest ABC School Board Election Update

It has been more than a week since the Nov. 8 ABC School Board Election, but the race for the 2-year term seat may still be in question as updated canvass tallies released by the Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk's office late Wednesday afternoon show just 22 votes separate candidates and . 

 remains ahead in the standings with 3,009 votes, however, Yoo is close behind with 2,987 votes -- perhaps laying the groundwork for a potential recount. Though Yoo tells Patch no matter the result, she is proud and grateful for her experience in this election.

"Looking back it was amazing how much work I was able to accomplish in such a short time," Yoo said. "I never prepared myself for a political career, but now I know that people prepare themselves for this for years."

"I am actualy very content and thankful with all the results -- my supporters with the campaign and my volunteers -- they were all so good and I'm very thankful," she replied when asked about the updated numbers, which have shown her trailing since the finals hours of election night. 

"I honestly have peace of heart. I learned so much and I could not exchange this experience with anything," she said, adding that the campaign process has given her new and valuable insight into the innerworkings of the city, the election process and the country as a whole.

"It has broadened my views and I feel like I have a new calling for the rest of my life ... it was a such a motivating experience."

Canvass Details

The official election canvass, which began last Thursday and will last through Monday, Nov. 21, is a process in which all outstanding provisional, vote-by-mail and withheld ballots from Tuesday night's ABC School Board election will be verified and tallied by the L.A. County Registrar-Recorder.
