Some of So Cal's Best Stand-Up Comics Deliver Laughs & Awareness at Hiwa Restaurant Tonight

It's not every day some of the region's best comedians gather for a evening of fun and laughter in the name of a good cause. But tonight, Hiwa Restaurant at the Cerritos Promenade will be offering exactly that, during a free comedy showcase to support the .

"It's more of an 'awareness-raiser' for the foundation," said Medical Director of Cerritos CareMore, Dr. Jeffrey Tipton, who is among the list of comedians to perform.

The foundation, which was established earlier this year, is a non-profit organization formed to support and strengthen local communities by bringing volunteers, finances and recognition to non-profit organizations who serve seniors. 

"There will be information there for people if they want to contribute or get involved in the foundation, which is geared toward helping seniors with a variety of things that the government can't help them with," said Tipton, adding that it awards roughly $250,000 a year in grants to non-profits that have a direct or indirect influence on senior issues like food, transportation or other essential living needs.

Any donations collected tonight will benefit the foundation.

Some of Areas Best Stand-Up Comedians to Perform at 7:30 p.m. 

While the heart of tonight's event aims to bring awareness to the CareMore Foundation, attendees can expect to enjoy a wonderful night that features some of the region's best stand-up comics. 

"Our headliner is Monrok, whose acts have been known to address her culture, workplace issues, and dating," the doctor said.

Monrok, who is of East Indian descent, has appeared at The Comedy Store, The Hollywood Improv, and the Laugh Factory. She has also been on shows like NBC's Last Comic Standing, and she was the winner of the 2009 California’s Funniest Female Contest (www.funniestfemale.com), according to her website.

"As for the other comics, they've performed all over. These are A-Listers, these performers are among the best," Tipton added.

That list includes comics Bob Perkell, Adam Rank, Dr. Jeffrey Tipton, Chang, Erik Schulte and Amaya Perea.

"The event is free to attend, but we suggest that you make a reservation at the restaurant and enjoy dinner while watching the show," Tipton said. 

"It's nice to have a comedy event like this here in Cerritos as opposed to having to travel and see stand-up," he said. "These are comics you'd definitely be willing to travel to go and see, but tonight, they're right here in town."
