Dog Protects California Girl From Attempted Assault
Police said a family dog snapped at a man when he attempted to grab a 12-year-old girl.

CHICO, CA -- A dog in California recently prevented the attempted assault of a 12-year-old girl. Chico police said the girl was walking her family dog during the evening of April 8 when a man reached out to her and tried to grab her.
The dog growled and snapped at the suspect to prevent the man from harming the girl. The girl and her dog then ran home to notify her parents, police said.
The suspect was last seen running westbound on East 12th Street toward Park Avenue. An extensive area check was conducted by responding Chico Police Officers, but the suspect was not located.

The suspect was identified as a dark skinned male, possibly Latino or Indian, thin in build with a dark colored beard or goatee. He had dark, long hair which was in a bun or ponytail. The suspect was wearing a tan camouflage coat.
The victim also stated the suspect had strong body odor and appeared to be disheveled.
