Chico police are still interviewing witnesses and gathering evidence, while friends, coworkers, and family ask the community for thoughts and prayers.

2. Death notices received Dec. 22 (chicoer.com) — Several local families are mourning loved ones from Chico and nearby communities, with recent deaths including residents who passed in Chico between November 12 and December 20. The notices list ages, hometowns, dates of death, and the Chico-area funeral homes handling arrangements, with one family opting for no services.
   

3. Chico Man Sentenced for Hate Crime Against Reporter (gridleyherald.com) — A Chico man has been sentenced in Butte County Superior Court for a felony hate crime after damaging a TV reporter’s camera outside the Elks Lodge in Chico. He received formal probation, anger management, community service, restitution, and county jail time largely satisfied by credit for days already served, with prosecutors stressing that hate-motivated crimes will be prosecuted locally.
   

4. Blue Santa enforces Christmas spirit (chicoer.com) — Chico police officers are once again donning the “Blue Santa” suit, delivering toys and other gifts to local children at home and at Enloe Health just in time for Christmas. Funded by donations through the Chico Police Officers Association and coordinated with the Boys and Girls Club of the North Valley, the program helps adopted Chico families enjoy a brighter holiday.
