• Lindo Channel groundwater testing underway (chicoer.com) — Groundwater experts are testing whether Chico’s Lindo Channel can help naturally recharge local aquifers, potentially strengthening the city’s long-term water supply. The Vina Groundwater Sustainability Agency has installed monitoring wells, run infiltration tests, and begun water-quality sampling, with more flow measurements planned for the 2025–26 rainy season to see how much Big Chico Creek water can be redirected underground.
   

• PET OF THE WEEK: Adopt Fred, the soft and affectionate Pit Bull mix at Haven Humane! (krcrtv.com) — A lovable 2-year-old Pit Bull mix named Fred is looking for a forever home, with Haven Humane highlighting him from right here in Chico, Calif. Fred is playful, affectionate, good with other pets, and currently in foster care, so interested Chico-area adopters should call the Humane Society of Anderson to arrange a meeting and watch for his appearance at the PetSmart kiosk on Hilltop Drive.
   

• Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve receives $1.3M for wildfire prevention project (krcrtv.com) — Chico-area residents will see major wildfire prevention work at the Big Chico Creek Ecological Reserve, thanks to a new $1.3 million grant for fuel breaks along Musty Buck Ridge between Cohasset and Forest Ranch. Starting as early as spring 2026, Chico State and partners plan years of prescribed burns and vegetation management to better protect nearby communities and strengthen the local ecosystem.
